False Landscapes (2005)![]() This project was made for the 2205 CCNY student photo exhibition. The piece is similar to Family Portraits, although the concepts differ from one another. 12 landscapes were put on the gallery wall with "Take One" sign next to it. When the visitors took the photograph, they would find an instruction on the back. They were to: take the landscape to their home; hang it on the wall or put it on somewhere; take a photograph(s) of the environment that is transformed by putting this landscape; and send me the photograph(s) via email. Those landscapes did not work on the white wall. They needed to be taken and put in an environment where they could blend into more alive and fluid surroundings: Personal space. After a while all the photographs were gone. It was fun to see an empty space in a photo exhibition. The images were from SCAPE series. I did it in part because I was sick of these images and wanted to get rid of them. Now IÕm a bit upset because only one person emailed me the photograph she took. ![]() Photograph by Midori Akahane |
